How to Learn German Easily And Cheaply

by Adrian Fletcher

When faced with a problem there are generally two ways to deal with it (well three actually, if you combine both approaches). You can throw a lot of money at the problem and, while this is no guarantee that you will be successful, for most people it can save a lot of time. The alternative is to cut back on the budget and dedicate more time to the problem. This too will be successful in most cases but can lead to frustration as you search for the best method to solve the problem. This can be applied to learning any language, including German.

Both cases can be represented as follows.

A person buys a return ticket to Germany or Austria or another German speaking country and does an intensive course and lives in the country for a few months. This will cost a bit of money but you can expect to have a pretty good grasp of the German language at the end of the sojourn.

The other scenario is that you get a course - be it a traditional book type course with a few audio tracks thrown in or even a latest bells and whistles software course that has a voice recognition/analysis program and all sorts of other features that aid you in learning German. Whatever you decide to get it will no doubt be cheaper than doing a full blown immersion course in Germany. And although each course may work to varying degrees the chances are that if you stick with the course you will reach a decent level of conversational German.

It will probably take you a lot longer than the first scenario but this is really to be expected as you will no doubt be studying part time as opposed to full time if you were to immerse yourself in the language.

So how do you learn German quickly and cheaply ? How do you get the best of both worlds - save money and time ? That is the question on everyone's lips. And the simple answer is to live as if you were in Germany or some other German speaking country. In other words bring the immersion method to you.

You may live in the back of beyond and rarely see a person, let alone a German speaking person so how can you immerse yourself in German if this is the case.

This is where books, TV, radio, internet, and DVDs can come in handy. Immerse yourself in the language by listening to German music, watch German movies or TV programs. Leverage the power of the internet to learn German. Go to all the video sharing websites like youtube to find German language videos. You can find all sorts of stuff like interviews, music and documentaries. Some are even subtitled with English.

You could also try interacting with other people - German people or other people trying to learn German - through the internet. This would be a whole lot cheaper than going to Germany. A popular method, thanks to the internet and voice over internet protocol (VOIP) services is to have personal tuition by a professional, native speaking German teacher. This can be more expensive than buying a course but it could also be more effective. You could also find free podcasts or courses on many authority websites. Many libraries have full courses that you can borrow but they can be a bit frustrating as the lending period will run out before you finish the course.

Give yourself as much time listening, learning and speaking German as possible. Devote a whole day or a weekend to this task. weekends are best because you have less commitments and more free time.

Bartending Online Schools: What To Expect And What You’ll Get

by Jim Hofman

Bartending has long been one of the most popular professions worldwide. And while most of the skills bartenders need to be successful are learned on the job, bartending schools are another option to cover the basics. Over the past decade, learning and taking courses online has blossomed, and the bartending industry is no exception. There are now dozens of reputable online courses that will teach you how to become a bartender.

The question, though, is what kind of results you should expect. Whether you complete a bartending course in person or online, your ultimate expectations should be reasonable. Don't expect to land a high paying bartending gig solely on the basis of having completed a course. It just doesn't work that way. However, if you use such a course as a refresher or as a way to secure job placement, it may well prove worth your while.

What You Should Expect From An Online Bartending Course

Online bartending courses are ideal for those who need to learn at a flexible pace. Typically, you should expect to pay anywhere from $50 on the low end to $200 on the high end to access the course. This is, of course, somewhat lower than a live course. While there is normally no set time limit to complete the course, most online schools will at a minimum recommend completion parameters.

You should expect many of the same modules as a live, in person course. Training will be provided on alcohol awareness, as well as any state regulations as applicable. You'll typically work along with a virtual bartender, with interactive voice, in the areas of mixology, bar procedures, and drink recipe knowledge.

What You'll Get From An Online Course

The main benefit you'll gain from an online bartending course is flexibility. Most vendors will offer the opportunity to take the course entirely online, or offer packaged materials mailed to your home. Successful completion of the course will net you a certificate/diploma, along with basic, rudimentary knowledge of how to be a bartender.

Some online vendors will also offer some level of job placement assistance, depending upon where you live and where they have established industry contacts. This is much less common as opposed to on site bartending courses, where job placement assistance is more prevalent and even expected.

Summary

Online bartending classes are an excellent option for those who are considering a bartending career. You'll get the basics, and the cost is minimal, as is the commitment. On the other hand, if you have decided to pursue bartending as a job or career, we recommend a combination of an onsite bartending school and as much experience as you can get. Online bartending schools have their place, but it's very important you enter the relationship with realistic expectations.

Applying for Financial Aid: Not Hard at All

by David Sherman

Last year, private college tuition rose to nearly $25,000. Public colleges, especially community colleges, charged far less, but costs there are rising as well.

In fact, college costs are increasing at between 4% and more than 6% annually, but the good news is that financial aid is increasing as well.

And it would be nuts not to apply for some of that aid because doing so is really pretty simple.

Approximately 67% of students receive federal aid. It comes in the form of grants and loans. The average student attending a two-year institution received more than $2,000 in such aid in 2007-2008. Student at four-year publics got about $3,600, and students attending four-year privates raked in, on average, $9,300 in federal aid.

The amount of federal grant aid and subsidized loans for which a student is eligible is determined by an analysis of the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which students must submit each year.

Other kinds of scholarships also require students to have a completed FAFSA, so be sure to get yours taken care of as quickly as you can.

College and university financial aid offices will gladly help you apply for federal, state, and other kinds of financial aid. And, don't forget the wealth of financial aid and scholarship information you can find on the internet. Just try a search for "financial aid", "college scholarships" or "scholarships" and you'll see.

When filling out your FAFSA you will need to provide information which includes your social security number, your driver's license number, and your W-2 forms from the previous year. If married, you'll also need your spouse's tax information. Or, if you are living with your parents or are listed as a dependent, you will need parental asset and earnings information.

Although you can use a paper application, filling out the FAFSA online is far easier for lots of reasons. And, completing the FAFSA online makes it easier for you to track the process.

That's it. Forget about the horror stories you may have heard. Just complete your FAFSA carefully and on time and you'll have no problems at all.

Ansel Adams: Photographer, Author, Artist

by Herbert Reich

Highly regarded for his black and white photographs of California's Yosemite Valley, the American photographer, Ansel Adams, nurtured a profound love for photography, the printed word and the piano. During his lifetime, Adams authored numerous books on photography as well as along with masters like Edward Weston, Willard Van Dyke, Imogen Cunningham among others, co-founded the photographic association Group f/64.

His love of photography prompted him to publish the famous trilogy of technical instruction manuals: "The Camera," "The Negative" and "The Print." A pioneer and visionary in his field, Adams invented what is known as the zone system. The zone system was a technique offered photographers a better control over finished photographs by enabling them to translate light they see into specific densities on both negatives and paper.

Born in San Francisco, Adams enjoyed an upper-class upbringing. His interest in photography was fueled when as a sick child, his Aunt Mary presented him with a copy of "In the Heart of the Sierras," a book by George Fiske. So taken was young Adams by the photographs in the book that he persuaded his parents for a vacation in Yosemite National Park. The year was 1916, and this is when Adams was gifted his first camera.

Adams prided himself on being a self-educated man. He dropped out of school at the tender age of thirteen. Although he initially trained himself to be a pianist, the lure of the camera and the love of photography kept him alternating all through his adult life between a photographer and a concert pianist. By age seventeen, Adams became a part of a group called the Sierra Club that was dedicated towards preserving natural resources and wonders. His love of nature and the environment kept him busy at the club and he was a member all through his lifetime. In fact, both Adams and his wife Virginia served as directors of the club. Also an enthusiast mountaineer, Adams loved the outdoors and he made several ascents in the Sierra Nevada.

His book of photographs, "Sierra Nevada: The John Muir Trail," convinced Congress to establish the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in 1940. Some 40 years later, the Minarets Wilderness in the Inyo National Forest was renamed the Ansel Adams Wilderness. He also had an 11,760' peak in the Sierra Nevada named in his honor. Although he did give up formal education very early in life, Adams received three Guggenheim fellowships during the course of his career. In the year 1966, he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. And in 1980 he was awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor by Jimmy Carter. You can learn more about photography and Ansel Adams and the techniques he used by taking a course in photography.

How To Read, Check, Teach and Generate Essays

by C Bolden

I enjoy reading them, checking them, teaching myself how to generate essays, but most of all I enjoy writing them! You want to ask why. I hope after reading this article you will understand. And I so much believe that you will also get familiar with the incredible world of essays.

Let's start our trip from a short background. The word "essay" originated from French word "essai" which means "attempt, effort, sketch". And this translation reflects the essence of the task you are assigned at your college. Really, it is your personal attempt to give a challenging sketch on some engrossing issue. Unlike other academic assignments, essay suggests freedom of your creative work. Its main advantage is that you can write it on any topic, in any style.

Essay is really how you decide your point of view on something you have heard, read, seen etc. The forefront of the essay is your personality, your thoughts, feelings and your life position. You have a unique chance to enter a reasonable controversy with other authors, as the teacher expects you to show your true meaning in the subject.

However, you should remember that regardless freedom of the writing process, it is not that easy at all. Because you are expected to find an original and capturing idea (even in the traditional context) and exceptional opinion on some problem.

The title of essay does not strictly depend on the essay topic: the title can also serve as a starting point in your reflection; it can express the relation of the whole and the parts. A free composition of essay is subject to its inner logic, it is an emphasized position of the author.

The style of the essay is marked by its aphoristic, paradoxical and figurative character. To convey your personal perception of the world you should: employ a lot of capturing examples, draw parallels, choose analogies, use various associations. One of the characteristic features of essay is the wide usage of numerous expressive means, such as metaphors, parable and allegoric figures, symbols and comparisons.

Your can standout and make your essay more interesting if you include in it: unpredictable conclusions, unexpected turning points, interesting clutches of events. Essay presents a dynamic interchange of author's arguments, supporting evidence and questions.

Be brief, but at the same time avoid absolute simplicity. No one will like reading a monotonous narration. Completing the draft of your essay, read it aloud, yes, aloud. You will be struck by the number of rough details in your essay. You should get rid of them with no regret. If you have to say something new, original and exclusive, then the genre of essay is your genre. Be creative, free your mind and maybe you will reveal a great essayist in yourself.
