Truck Rental: How to Make Relocating Simple, Even with Pets

Relocating can be an exciting time in your life, but it can become somewhat trying if animals are involved. It will also be difficult if you fail to get prepared adequately. It is important to remember that relocating into a new place can not only be stressful for you, but for your animals as well. While going through your “to-do list” such as whether to hire a self pack moving company, do you have enough boxes, or getting a moving van rental, it is important not to overlook our furry friends.

If preparing to drive a truck rental to your new home, be sure to rent a truck that has enough room for you and your pet to ride safely. Often times, people can forget such an important aspect and once everything is loaded realize there is no room for the dog! Most moving vans come equipped with a big enough driving area to fit three full grown adults. Include your pet as one of those adults. In addition, while packing and loading your goods, barricade an area in your dwelling so your pet can be comfortable and entertain him or herself, but be out of your way.

Normally during a move, doors leading to the outside need to stay open. Your dog or cat may view this as a good time to stray. A long search for your pet can throw a well planned timeline or schedule out the window. You may also be tempted to get your pet’s most loved toys packed and ready for the move. Although it is ok to pack some things, be sure to leave a few out. This will be comforting for your pet as they might be enduring a longer trip than they are use to. The important thing is to do your best to make them happy, and they will be as excited as you for the adventure.

Finally, once you get to your new house, immediately take your pet around so he or she can become used to the new house. More than likely, they are going to be very excited to have a new place to investigate and play in. Maybe even give them a special treat for being so well behaved and patient during the move. In addition, take them for a walk around the neighborhood and to meet the new neighbors. Sometimes people can worry if they see a new pet in their area, so the sooner your pet can make friends with them, the better. Enjoy your journey!
