Asthma problems? Your vacuum might be doing more hurt than good

by Kristina Brown

Has this situation ever happened to you? You switch on the vacuum cleaner and begin to sneeze uncontrollably. Do you notice your allergy symptoms worsen when you are vacuuming your house? Most vacuums do not have what is called a sealed system so they never effectively clean the air in your home. Without a sealed HEPA filtration system you might be doing more harm than good to your allergy symptoms when you are vacuuming your house.

My vacuum cleaner has a filter, so why is it not filtering? A common misconception is that when you are vacuuming, all of the dirt and dust are contained within the vacuum cleaner. This definitely is not the case with many vacuum cleaners with a standard filter. When you are using a vacuum cleaner with a standard filter, the air expelled from the vacuum is not HEPA certified. A standard (not HEPA) filter does NOT have the filtering capabilities of a HEPA Filter because it does not use the same kind of highly compacted filter medium in order to filter the exhaust air.

Why is a HEPA filter better? A HEPA filter has the ability to dramatically cut down on allergy and asthma triggers. A HEPA filter leaves the house cleaner, healthier and can greatly suppress allergy and asthma symptoms.

There are a large variety of "cheap" vacuum cleaners that offer a HEPA filter within, why would I not just but one of them? Just because a vacuum cleaner contains a HEPA filter does not mean it is constructed in a way that ensures only HEPA certified air is leaving the vacuum. A vacuum may contain a HEPA filter, but may be leaking air that is not HEPA certified through cracks and crevices of the flimsily constructed vacuum cleaner. For true HEPA certified filtration you need a sealed system, a feature found on Miele vacuums that insures all air that leaves your vacuum cleaner is HEPA certified.

Ok so what do Miele Vacuums Cleaners have that others don't? Miele vacuum cleaners have true HEPA filtration and a sealed system. True HEPA filtration means the machine is only expelling air that is HEPA certified clean. To achieve such a feat Miele has a sealed system, which means that all of the air that is expelled is HEPA certified and that all of the air is pushed through the HEPA filter before it is expelled.

What exactly is Miele's Sealed System? Miele vacuum cleaners have a rubber sealing around the body of the machine, which prevents any dirty air from escaping. A Miele HEPA filter is also surrounded by a rubber sealing, which ensures that the all of the air that leaves a Miele Vacuum is HEPA certified clean air.

Does a Miele Vacuum perform any other incredible feats? Absolutely! The Miele HEPA filter contains charcoal on the bottom of the filter to help rid the air offensive odors. Most vacuum do not even have the filtration capabilities to properly clean the air, yet amazingly Miele vacuum cleaners are capable of efficiently cleaning and deodorizing the air.

There is no other vacuum cleaner on the market like the Miele Vacuum cleaner. With features like incredible filtration and odor elimination, the Miele Vacuum cleaner is superior to all other vacuum cleaners. With the help of this article you hopefully possess the knowledge needed to make an educated vacuum cleaner purchase in the future.
